Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

Technically it wasn't a doubleheader, but the Hammerheads kept the Mets off the scoreboard over two days and two games, finishing off a 2-0 game from Wednesday night and watching Rob Rasmussen go the distance in the regularly scheduled affair.

Wednesday night's game, the second half of a doubleheader, was suspended due to rain in the middle of the 3rd inning with Jupiter already up 1-0. John Omahen and A.J. Ramos picked up where Jose Rosario left off last night, keeping St. Lucie off the board by only allowing one base runner over the day's four remaining innings.

Omahen tossed three hitless innings, only allowing one walk to match his strikeout total. All-Star closer A.J. Ramos took over in the 7th inning and struck out the side for his 20th save of the season.

Kyle Jensen scored both Hammerhead runs, roughly 22 hours apart. Jensen led off a four-hit 2nd inning on Wednesday night, and came home on Sergio Pedroza's sacrifice fly in the 6th inning on Thursday. J.L. Ortiz, who had a hit in yesterday's big inning, had doubled to move Jensen to third. Ortiz has knocked out multiple hits in 12 of his last 24 games.

Thursday's regularly scheduled game was shortened to seven innings because of the completion, and starter Rob Rasmussen finished them all. In fact, the left-hander matched the performance of Jupiter's trio of hurlers in the earlier game, again holding the Mets scoreless on just two hits.

Rasmussen retired the first nine batters he faced en route to his second straight start of seven scoreless innings. Jupiter's Opening Day starter, Rasmussen struck out six batters while issuing two walks.

While the two walks nearly got Rasmussen into trouble - they were followed by a single to load the bases with two outs in the 5th inning - the Jupiter bats gave him breathing room with a four-run 4th inning.

Jeff Dominguez doubled to lead off the frame and advanced on a wild pitch. When Sergio Pedroza dribbled a grounder to third base, Dominguez came home and beat the tag for the game's first run.

After a walk to load the bases with one out, Mets starter Kyle Allen unleashed his second wild pitch of the inning, scoring another run for Jupiter. Jose Torres would end Allen's night with a two-out single to bring two more home.

The Hammerheads may need a third straight shutout if they want to take the series, as they go up against the Florida State League's top pitcher in Friday night's finale. St. Lucie's Darin Gorski boasts the league's best ERA by a third of a run, his 2.20 mark helping him to a 10-1 record. Jupiter will counter with the Marlins' top pitching prospect, Chad James. The left-hander owns a 3.38 ERA, the ninth-best in the league. The two will duel in a 6:35 p.m. start at Roger Dean Stadium.
