
Jupiter Shut out by Clearwater 4-0 in First-Half Finale

JUPITER, FL - The Jupiter Hammerheads (36-30) were shut out by the Clearwater Threshers (43-23) for the second consecutive game losing by a final score of 4-0 on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. With the loss, the Palm Beach Cardinals claim the FSL East Division title for the first half of the 2024 season. Jupiter will need to earn the second-half division title in order to continue their quest for defending their championship from last year. With the win, Clearwater claimed the FSL West Division title with the win tonight.
It was a pitchers' duel from the start of the ballgame between Jupiter starter Eliazar Dishmey and Clearwater starter Luke Russo (W, 4-1). Dishmey tossed five perfect innings with six strikeouts on just 55 pitches. Russo surrendered two hits and four total baserunners in his first five innings but kept the Hammerheads off the scoreboard.
The game's first run would not come until the top of the sixth inning off of Hammerheads relief pitcher Delvis Alegre (L, 0-3). With two outs in the top of the sixth, Avery Owusu-Asiedo hit a single to be the first man to reach base for Clearwater and ended the perfect game and no-hit bid. Then, Jordan Viars would hit an RBI double to give the Threshers a 1-0 lead.
The Threshers would give themselves a cushion by scoring three more runs in the top of the seventh inning thanks to an RBI single by Jared Thomas and a two-RBI double for Diego Gonzalez to give Clearwater a 4-0 lead. Alegre finished with two innings pitched with four earned runs on six hits.
The Hammerheads only recorded five hits in the ballgame and left seven men on base and they were shut out for the second straight game and lose by a 4-0 final score. Jupiter struck out 13 times at the plate and has not scored a run since the bottom of the sixth inning in Tuesday's 11-4 loss to Clearwater. It is the sixth time this season that the Hammerheads have been shut out.
Jordan McCants went 2-for-3 at the plate and had two of the five hits for the Hammerheads. Jack Sellinger provided two scoreless innings in relief for Jupiter with four strikeouts.
The second half of the 2024 season begins on Friday, June 21st with game four of the series between the Hammerheads and the Threshers in the "Battle of the Sharks." First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with Keyner Benitez (0-0, 2.08 ERA) slated to start on the mound for Jupiter. Click here to purchase your tickets.
