Jupiter Extends Winning Streak To 6 Games With 5-1 Victory Over Dunedin

April 27, 2024 - Florida State League (FSL)
Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

The Jupiter Hammerheads (14-6) extended their win streak to six games with a little help from the force with a 5-1 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays (9-11) on Star Wars Night Saturday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Noble Meyer (W, 1-1) earned his first victory of 2024 with five strong innings and just one run allowed. With the loss, Dunedin's losing streak extended to eight games.

The Blue Jays would strike first in the top of the first inning off of Meyer. With two outs, Tucker Toman launched his third home run of the season, a solo home run to right field, to make it 1-0 in favor of Dunedin. Toman's home run was the only blemish on the night for Meyer on the mound.

The Hammerheads would retaliate in the bottom of the second inning off of Lazaro Estrada (L, 0-1). With two outs and runners at the corners, Tony Bullard stole second base and the throw allowed Yeral Martinez to jog home tying the ballgame at 1-1. In the very next inning, Colby Shade led off with a double. Three batters later with two outs, John Cruz reached on an infield single and a throwing error by Dunedin pitcher Jerry Huntzinger allowed Shade to score giving the Hammerheads the lead at 2-1.

Both teams would keep the offenses in check as the bullpens settled into the ballgame. Just for good measure, Jupiter would pad their lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Shade would score on a wild pitch with one out. Brock Vradenburg came in to score thanks to a wild pitch and a throw to second base. Finally, Bullard drove in the first Hammerheads RBI on a single to finalize the scoring in the ballgame at 5-1.

Josh Eckness (Sv, 4) recorded the final six outs on the mound with two shutout innings to seal the 5-1 victory for Jupiter and extend the win streak to six games. Jesus Hernandez went 2-for-4 leading all hitters and also added a stolen base. Shade and Martinez each scored two runs.

During this six-game win streak for Jupiter, pitchers have thrown 54 innings and have allowed only 12 runs, eight of which were earned runs (1.33 ERA) and have struck out 71 batters.

The Hammerheads look for the series sweep against the Blue Jays on Sunday, April 28 with first pitch scheduled for noon at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Jake Brooks (2-0, 1.59 ERA) will make the start for the Jupiter on the mound as the Hammerheads also look to extend their win streak to eight games.
