The Montreal Juniors opened a brief two-game homestand tonight against the Halifax Mooseheads. The Juniors won a tough battle in a shootout as they defeated the Mooseheads by the score of 4 to 3. Carl Gelinas, Linden Bahm, and Tomas Knotek scored in the losing effort for the Mooseheads. Jeremy Gouchie led the way for the Juniors with a goal, an assist, and the shootout winner. Hubert Genest and Nicolas Chouinard also scored for the Juniors.
In the first period, the Mooseheads opened the scoring when winger Carl Gelinas tapped home the rebound at 2:12 from center Guillaume Pelletier and defenseman Sawyer Hannay. Halifax jumped to a two-goal lead when forwards Tomas Knotek and Travis Randell made the perfect set up for winger Linden Bahm as he scored right in front for his fifth of the year on the power play at 11:02.
The Mooseheads suffered a set back in the second when goaltender Joel Grondin replaced Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault at 1:47, who left the game with a hand injury. Suddenly, the Juniors found momentum as they scored three unanswered goals in the second. They cut the deficit to one when defenseman Hubert Genest fired the puck past Grondin from Matthew Brenton and Jeremy Gouchie at 3:27. These three players got on the score sheet again. Gouchie captalized on the rebound left by Corbeil-Theriault, who came back into action after receiving medical attention, after he kicked away Brenton's shot with the left pad at 6:36. Genest also earned an assist. Juniors took lead when captain Nicolas Chouinard one-timed Guillaume Asselin's pass on the power play at 18:20.
Halifax tied the game in the third as Tomas Knotek snapped one past Jake Allen on the breakaway at 13:25 and forced the game to overtime with both teams even at 3 goals each. The game was eventually decided in a shootout. Juniors Jeremy Gouchie got the shootout winner as the Juniors defeat the Mooseheads 4 to 3.
Juniors goalie Jake Allen was stellar in the winning effort as he stopped 32 shots. Halifax goaltender Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault denied 30 shots and gave up two goals in the loss. His replacement Joel Grondin made 2 saves and gave up a goal when Corbeil-Theriault was receiving medical attention for his hand. The Mooseheads are now 5-18-0-2 while the Montreal Juniors improve to 12-12-0-1.
