Brockton Rox News Release
BROCKTON, MA - June 3rd, 2017 - The Brockton Rox struggled at the plate as they could only produce 3 runs on 7 hits in an 11-3 loss to the Seacoast Mavericks on Saturday night at Campanelli Stadium.
The bats for both teams took a while to get going as the game remained scoreless until the 5th inning. The inning before, the Rox (1-2) found themselves in a tough jam with the bases loaded and nobody out. Erskine College's Skyler Henderson was able to come in and shut down Seacoast to avoid any damage while striking out 2.
The Mavericks (2-1) got the scoring started in the top of the 5th when Ben Irvine walked to lead off the inning and would later score on a RBI single by Julian Bury. The following inning, Seacoast would plate 5 more runs led by John Maclean. The Harvard junior hit a triple down the right field line, clearing the bases in the process. The Mavericks would add runs in the 7th and 8th to round out their scoring. The Rox were able to get 3 runs late in the game highlighted by a 2 run home run by Daniel Jung in the bottom of the 8th. Luke Dawson was stellar for Mavs going 6 strong innings, allowing only 4 hits and striking out 6.
The Rox will look to bounce back next week as they take on the Mavericks again in Seacoast on Monday followed by a Tuesday morning game at Campanelli Stadium against the Worcester Bravehearts. The Rox look forward to welcoming a lot of young fans as they come to Tuesday morning's game for School day!
