JOLIET SLAMMERS (27-20) vs. ROCKFORD RIVERHAWKS (21-27)

Friday, July 15 - 7:05 p.m. CT

Silver Cross Field - Joliet, IL

Game #48 - Home Game #24 (27-20, 15-8)

RHP #38 RYNE MILLER (0-3, 5.02 ERA) vs. RHP #7 JOE SCUMACI (2-0, 3.22 ERA)

Last Time Out.

The Joliet Slammers' pitching staff gave up 15 hits but it didn't matter as the offense picked them up in an 8-6 victory Sunday night over the Normal CornBelters to complete their first road sweep of the season. The Slammers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first, highlighted by a Josh Flores triple. The CornBelters would tie it up, however, in the second. Although the Slammers never trailed in the game, starter Billy Petrick (4-6) worked in and out of trouble all day on his way to the hard-fought victory. Each team scored in four different innings in this offensive battle, with home runs by Kyle Maunus and David Fox providing the big blasts for the Slammers. Joliet looks to continue their winning ways in the second half of the season tonight when they take on the Rockford RiverHawks at 7:05 pm seeking their fourth straight win.

For Starters.

Ryne Miller is coming off a solid outing against Normal on July 8 as he went six innings, giving up three hits, three runs, all earned, walking four and striking out three. He has yet to record a decision with the Slammers but has dropped his ERA from 7.02 to 5.02 on the year since arriving in Joliet. The Slammers traded their 2012 first round pick in the Frontier League draft to River City for Miller on June 27. He advanced as high as Double A in the Red Sox organization. Miller has a career 4.52 ERA in minor league baseball over four seasons.

MVP!

Erik Lis started at first base for the East Division in the Frontier League All-Star Game on Wednesday and took home the MVP award as the East won 4-2. Lis hit a two-RBI triple in the first inning and would come around to score. He added a single later in the game as he went 2-3. Lis currently leads the Slammers in batting avg. (.307), HR (9), and RBI (39).

So Far, So Good.

The Slammers resume play tonight a season-best seven games over .500. They also start the second half of the season in first place in the East Division by a season-high 1.5 games. The Slammers hope to ride the momentum from their successful first half, as they have won three games in a row and are 8-2 in their last 10.

Home Sweet Home.

The Slammers have taken full advantage of playing in front of a home crowd so far this season, compiling an impressive 15-8 record at Silver Cross Field. Earlier this season, the Slammers put together an eight game winning streak in their home ballpark. Additionally, the Slammers are 2-0 this season in extra innings games played at home. While on the road, the Slammers have played .500 ball, coming in at 12-12.

Scenario.

In 22 AB's with runners in scoring position during his first professional season, David Fox has 11 hits and 17 RBI. Brad Netzel has also been very good in the clutch as he is hitting .368 in 38 AB's with runners in scoring position.

Craziness.

The Slammers have 16 comeback wins this season but are only 4-18 when trailing after six. Thanks largely to the dominance of their bullpen, opponents might as well give up when trailing after six innings as the Slammers have a 19-0 mark in that scenario.

Transaction Wire.

The Slammers traded catcher Lee Rubin today to the Windy City ThunderBolts for a player to be named later. They activated RHP Andrew Moss from the Suspended List today. On Monday they released RHP Brandon Garner.
