Las Vegas Gladiators News Release
Las Vegas, NV, October 19, 2005 - The Las Vegas Gladiators, in partnership with News 3's "Operation: Football," awarded Julian Sample of Western High School the Gladiators' Ironman Award for the seventh week of the 2005 high school football season.
Sample, a senior quarterback, led the undefeated Warriors (7-0) to 34-0 win over Bonanza on Friday. He led Western in both passing and rushing, throwing for three scores and rushing for another. The Warriors team captain had scoring tosses of 41, 39 and 11 yards and rushed for 85 yards on the ground.
Sample also excels off the field as he holds a 3.08 cumulative GPA while also taking courses as a Community College High School student.
This award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved both on the playing field and in the classroom. These achievements are reflective of the players in the AFL, where the majority of the athletes have skills as two-way performers.
Athletes are nominated for the award by their respective schools based on their weekly performance. Winners are recognized with a certificate presentation at their school with Gladiators' head coach Ron James and News 3 sports anchors Mitch Roberts or Rick Strasser. The presentation is featured on News 3 each week.
The Gladiators fourth season at the Thomas & Mack Center kicks off in 2006. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Gladiators office at 702-731-4977 or logging onto www.lvgladiators.com.
