
Stafford Serves as Key Note Speaker for National Make A Difference Day

TAMPA BAY - Tampa Bay Storm quarterback Shane Stafford will serve as Tampa's keynote speaker for Make a Difference Day, Saturday, Oct. 22, at the University Area Community Development Center, 14013 N. 22nd St.
Millions of Americans across the country are expected to spend the day doing volunteer projects to improve their communities and help neighbors in need. The day marks the largest community service effort in the nation, rallying corporations, government leaders, charitable organizations and everyday Americans into action on one day.
"Volunteering and helping people is a central part of who I am," said Stafford. "I want to encourage people to help others and their communities in a positive way. I am honored to have the opportunity to share my experiences of helping others and those who have had a positive influence in my life."
Stafford will speak to 500 hundred area children and adults at a thank you dinner held in conjunction with national Make a Difference Day. The event place from 5:30 to 8:15 p.m., Stafford is scheduled to speak from 7:10 until 7:35 p.m.
Two hundred adults who have been a positive influence on children will be honored at the thank you dinner. The honorees will be joined by the 200 students in kindergarten through 12th grade they have influenced, as well as volunteers from businesses, the community and the University of South Florida.
A committee will select 200 entries out of 500 submitted from children throughout Hillsborough County. The submissions can be visual art, poetry, music or essay.
In keeping with the day's theme of giving, The St. Pete Times Forum and Stafford have teamed up to give out 500 tickets to the 2006 season opener for the Tampa Bay Storm to the people in attendance.
