July 26, 2007 - Albany, GA- The Bradenton Juice went after its first ever series win vs. the South Georgia Peanuts but it was not meant to be as the Juice fell in game one 3-0 and in game two 10-3. The Peanuts got the scoring started in game one when in the Bottom of the 1st Jasha Balcom led off with a single to center field. With Joey Hooft at the plate Balcom stole second base and then Hooft hit a single to right field plating Balcom giving the Peanuts a 1-0 lead. Two batters later Doc Brooks drew a walk and then Nick Prosise grounded out to third base driving home Hooft giving the Peanuts a 2-0 advantage.
South Georgia added an insurance run in the Bottom of the 6th with Doc Brooks, Nick Prosise, Curtis Goodwin, Steve Butler, and then Johnny Washington drawing walks in consecutive at bats. Brooks was picked off second base so the Peanuts run came across with Prosise scoring giving South Georgia a 3-0 lead.
Brian Gartley (5-2) takes the loss for the Juice after pitching 4 innings, allowing 2 runs (all earned) on 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2 Peanuts batters.
Jerome Gamble (2-0) did a very god job for the Peanuts going 6 innings, allowing 0 runs on 1 hit, walking 1 and striking out 8 Juice batters.
Game two was not much better for the Juice. South Georgia started the scoring in the 1st inning by scoring 3 runs. Jasha Balcom led off by reaching base on an error then Joey Hooft singled to center field. Up next Mike Caruso hit a three-run home run over the right field wall giving the Peanuts a 3-0 lead.
The Juice came back with a run in the Top of the 2nd with Eddie Kim drawing a leadoff walk and Zach Woodward followed with a single. Two batters later Luke Barganier hit a deep triple to right field scoring Kim cutting the Peanuts lead to 3-1.
South Georgia scored a run in the 2nd and Bradenton countered with a run of its own in the Top of the 3rd. Julius Thames drew a one-out walk and Brenan Hererra followed with a single to left field. Up next Al Corbeil smacked a single to right field scoring Thames cutting the South Georgia lead to 4-2.
But the Peanuts broke open the game sending 11 batters to the plate in the 3rd inning, scoring 6 runs on 6 hits including 4 singles and 2 doubles.
The Juice scored one more run in the 4th with Nick Corbeil reaching base on a walk and Luke Barganier followed by drawing a walk. The next batter Willie James hit a single to center field that loaded the bases for pinch hitter Mikela Olsen. Olsen was able to drive in a run when he walked plating Corbeil making it a 10-3 Peanuts advantage.
Travis Kane (3-1) takes the loss for Bradenton after pitching 2.1 innings, allowing 6 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1 batter.
Austin Weilep (8-1) got the win in relief for South Georgia after Derek Duclos started going 3.1 innings, allowing 3 runs (all earned) on 5 hits, walking 5 and striking out 1 Juice batter.
Bradenton is now 8-6 in the second half of the season and 32-26 overall while South Georgia regains the top spot in the second half South Coast League standings improving to 9-4 in the second half and 42-15 overall.
The Juice will start a three-game series with the Macon Music on Thursday at Luther Williams Field.
