Charleston Swamp Foxes News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC â A pair of arenafootball2 rookies were honored this week by being named the Charleston Swamp Foxes' players of the week. The Fox Hole Fan Club and the team's front office tabbed Joe Judge and Johnny Turman as the recipients of the weekly honors.
For both players, the selection marks the second-time this season that they've been honored, with Judge earning the first Fox Hole Fan Club nod between the pair.
Judge, a 5-11, 195-pound receiver/defensive back from McNeese State, had a career night as the Swamp Foxes snapped a two-game losing skid versus the Norfolk Nighthawks. The rookie caught eight passes for 131 yards (16.375 yards per reception) and three touchdowns. Defensively, Judge recorded four and a half tackles, including four solo stops, to tie for the team-high in the contest.
In his first season in arenafootball2, Judge has made 26 receptions for 339 yards and five touchdowns. He's also tallied 12 tackles and picked off one pass.
One week after setting his career-high for passing yards in a game -- 268 vs. Greensboro on May 30 â Swamp Foxes' quarterback Johnny Turman raised the bar one more notch. The 6-4, 220-pound rookie signal caller completed 18-of-27 passes for 283 yards and a team-record tying eight touchdowns helping the Foxes set a new North Charleston Coliseum record for points in a game (68). Turman tied former Foxes QB Ray Isaac, Jr. who set the mark back in the 2001 season opener versus Carolina. At halftime, Turman was a stellar 8-for-11 with five of the eight completions going for touchdowns.
This season, Turman has completed 112-of-213 passes for 1,358 yards and 28 touchdowns, ranking him third all-time on the Swamp Foxes passer lists for scoring strikes. He has already set a team record for pass attempts in a game (42) in a May 10 win over the Florida Firecats.
The Swamp Foxes are on the road this week as they travel to Atlantic Division rival, the Richmond Speed, for a match-up with playoff implications. The Foxes and Speed are currently tied at 4-5, battling for a playoff berth.
Charleston returns home on Saturday, June 21 for a match-up with the Macon Knights. The start time for the game has been moved to 6:00 pm as following the af2 contest, six-time Dove Award winner, Christian music singer Jaci Velasquez will present her "Unspoken" tour. Tickets are on sale now at the box office at the North Charleston Coliseum, www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone at (843) 554-6060.
