June 10, 2003 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Charleston quarterback JOHNNY TURMAN, Cape Fear fullback/linebacker WILMONT PERRY and Tennessee Valley defensive specialist KENNY BAILEY have been named Offensive Player, Ironman and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 10 of the 2003 season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Turman (6-4, 220, Pittsburgh), a rookie, has only been with the Swamp Foxes for six games but has wasted no time demonstrating his touchdown-tossing ability. One week removed from a 268-yard performance against Greensboro, the first-year gunslinger rattled off 283 passing yards to lead the way for the Swamp Foxes as they downed second-place Norfolk 68-44. Turman completed eight of his first 11 passes in the game with five going for touchdowns, giving the Swamp Foxes a comfortable lead which they never relinquished. Overall he went 18-of-27 passing for a team record and af2 season high eight touchdowns with no interceptions. Turman spent the early portion of 2003 with the AFL's San Jose SaberCats and has also been in camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers prior to arriving in Charleston. This is Turman's first af2 award and the second weekly honor for the Swamp Foxes this season.

IRONMAN OF THE WEEK

Perry (6-2, 250, Livingstone College), in his second season, rushed for 40 yards and four touchdowns in the Wildcat's 55-26 win over Richmond on Saturday just one week after rushing for 53 yards and four scores at Florida. With 93 yards and eight touchdowns over the past two weeks, Perry has jumped to the top of the league rushing leaderboard with 13 total touchdowns and 232 rushing yards. In the game against the rival Speed, Perry also made 2.5 tackles, defended one pass and registered a sack for an eight-yard loss. His overall effort helped the Wildcats to its largest margin of victory since July 27 of last season when the 'Cats beat Charleston 67-28. This is the first weekly honor for Perry and the first for any Wildcat this season.

ADT DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Bailey (5-11, 200, Delaware), in his second season, registered a game-high 12 tackles including 10 solo as the Vipers beat the Stealth 66-31 and improved to 9-0 for the season. Bailey also intercepted a pass and returned it 33 yards for a score in the third quarter to put the Vipers up by three scores, and he defended three other passes. Bailey's efforts led a Vipers' defense that has, along with last week's win, held three other opponents under 35 points this season.
