Chattanooga Red Wolves SC News Release
The Red Wolves were back on the road Saturday night in Madison, Wisconsin at Breese Stevens Field to attempt to bring their unbeaten run in the league to six games against a Forward Madison side who came into the match unbeaten in their last six home matches. The match started off at an even keel for both sides, as the Red Wolves looked to gain the upper hand early on. The first action of the night would fall to Juan Galindrez just after the 10th minute, shooting at goal and just narrowly missing the frame to test the Madison keeper.
DJ Benton would be shown a yellow card in the 16th minute for a foul on Derek Gebhard, leading to a free kick for Madison in the attacking third. However, misfortune would quickly turn on its head for the Red Wolves, as a blistering counterattack combined with a moment of miscommunication at the back for the hosts saw Juan Galindrez slot coolly with his left foot into the bottom right corner to give the Red Wolves a 0-1 advantage. A ninth goal of the season for the Colombian striker!
The Red Wolves were forced into an early change in the 22nd minute, as Tor Saunders picked up a knock and was unable to continue, being replaced by Carlos Avilez. Rey Ortiz would be the next to have an effort, with his strike from outside the box in the 30th minute flashing over the crossbar off a pass from Ualefi. Forward Madison would come back at the Red Wolves in the last 15 minutes of the half creating chances, but Carlos Avilez stood tall in goal and made several saves to keep the 0-1 advantage heading into the halftime break.
Coach Weekley made a double substitution to start the half, as Nico Cardona replaced DJ Benton and Ryley Kraft replaced Ualefi to make his Red Wolves away debut following his transfer from USL League Two side Des Moines Menace. The 51st minute would see Rey Ortiz at his best, hitting a wicked shot with his right foot that seemed destined for the bottom right hand corner if not for a save by Arozarena in the Madison goal.
After a good spell of pressure from the Red Wolves, another change came in the 61st minute, as Moe Espinoza replaced Rey Ortiz. Juan Galindrez would get the next opportunity in the 66th minute, but his rabona attempt on goal was saved by the Madison keeper. Shortly after Espinoza being introduced, Coach Weekley would go to the bench in the 73rd minute, introducing Andres Hernandez in place of Jimmie Villalobos.
A tepid yet measured next ten minutes would see little in the way of chances from either side, until Moe Espinoza took aim in the 84th minute from outside the box and was denied a goal by the Madison keeper. Forward Madison would find the front foot into stoppage time as the Red Wolves looked to soak up the pressure, doing so well. However, Forward Madison would find their goal in the 95th minute, as Jeremiah Streng found Alvin Jones at the back post to tap in and level late on.
It looked as if the cardiac Red Wolves had struck again as Aaron Lombardi found Juan Galindrez who fired into the goal, but he was ruled offside it what would prove to be the last decisive moment of the match.
The draw in Madison extends the Red Wolves unbeaten streak to six and keeps them third in the USL League One standings. The Red Wolves are back home on Saturday hosting South Georgia Tormenta FC. Tickets available now here: https://bit.ly/CHAvTRMtix
