Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- Robbie Payne scored two goals (10,11), as he led the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings to a 5-4 overtime victory over the Johnstown Tomahawks on Halloween themed orange ice on Saturday at Wings Stadium.
It only took two minutes and seven seconds into the first period for the Tomahawks to take an early 1-0 lead. The puck bounced off the back wall, and directly onto the stick of Brandon Reinholz (5th), who had a wide open net to stuff the puck past Marcus Due-Boje, who was making his Kalamazoo debut
The entire second period belonged to Kalamazoo, as they got the scoring started just 1:19 into the middle frame. Scoring the first goal of the game for Kalamazoo was Robbie Payne, whose five-on-three power play marker was his team lead tying tenth of the season.
27 seconds later, and still working with a man advantage, the Jr. K-Wings took their first lead of the contest. Kyle Gattelaro was able to poke home a rebound for his fourth of the season, giving Kalamazoo a one-goal lead. Gattelaro, who scored his fourth goal of the season in the second period, had a goal and an assist during the middle frame.
Extending the lead to two for Kalamazoo was Luc Boby at the 13:26 mark. Boby, who netted his team leading 11th of the season, got a great back door feed from Payne, and was able to make the score 3-1.
Capping off Kalamazoo's dominant third period was Nolan Culver. Culver, who deflected a shot by Davis DeKorte, was able to find the back of the goal for his third of the season and force Johnstown goalie, Bodhi Engum from the game in favor of Colin Brennan.
Down by three goals in the third period and using the leverage of a five-minute power play, the Tomahawks were able to go on a tear over the course of two minutes and six seconds. Starting the scoring attack was Cody Gylling, who scored his fifth of the season and brought Johnstown to within two.
Just forty-eight seconds later, the Tomahawks were still working on the five minute power play, but after another Jr. K-Wings Penalty, Johnstown had themselves an extended five on three opportunity. Brandon Reinholz capitalized with his team-leading sixth goal of the season, puling his team to within a goal in the third period.
Capping off three goals in two minutes and six seconds was Mike Sandor, who netted his first of the season and tied the game at 4-4. It would be enough to force the game into a five-minute extra session.
The overtime session wouldn't last long, as Payne (11th) was able to score the game winner, just 33 seconds into the period.

Sunday, October 28th Vs. Johnstown Tomahawks. 6-2 Loss.
Kalamazoo, MI- Even being outshot by a 43-35 margin, the Johnstown Tomahawks rode the momentum of four unanswered goals en route to a 6-2 victory over the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings on Sunday at the Borgess Health Rink inside Wings West.
It took over seventeen minutes to start the scoring in this contest, but the last three minutes were very exciting, as they yielded three goals from the two teams. Getting the scoring started was the Jr. K-Wings, as Luc Boby sent a beautiful tape-to-tape pass along to Taylor Burden who was waiting on the doorstep to bury his fourth of the season and give his team a 1-0 lead.
The Johnstown Tomahawks didn't wait long to respond to the Burden goal, as Jordan Watt (4th) struck back just 48 seconds later. Watt walked through the Kalamazoo defense with some nifty stickhandling, and beat Kalamazoo goalie, Alex Okicki over the stick side to tie the game at 1-1.
With jus ten seconds remaining in the first period, Watt would be on the receiving end of a stretch pass, and created a breakaway on Okicki. Watt took a quick wrist shot that found the back of the net for his second of the game and fifth of the season.
Just like in the first period, the second period was bottom heavy in it's scoring, as the two teams scored three goals in the final six minutes. Kalamazoo tied the game at two apiece on a power play goal by Danny Hamburg, who tallied his sixth of the season by sliding home a rebound on a shot from the point.
Seventy-three seconds later, the Tomahawks would roar right back and re-establish their lead. Brandon Reinholtz was the final piece of a tic-tac-toe passing play that left him all alone on Okicki to sweep home his team-leading seventh goal of the season, and his third in two nights against Kalamazoo.
Then, with just two and a half minutes remaining in the second period, the Tomahawks were able to take a two goal lead, their biggest of the night. Andrew McDonald was the goal scorer for Johnstown, netting his second goal of the season, and his first as a Tomahawk. The lead would stand until the end of the second, as they took the two goal advantage into the locker room after forty minutes.
The third period belonged to the Tomahawks, as they stole the show in the final frame with two more goals. Mitch Kontny was able to light the lamp for the sixth time of the season at the 6:44 mark and give his team a 5-2 lead.
Sealing the deal was Kontny, who scored his second of the period and team-lead tying seventh of the season and wrapped up a decisive 6-2 victory for his team.
