Game Rewind-

Saturday, December 10th Vs. Jamestown Ironmen. 4-0 Win.

Kalamazoo, MI- Alex Okicki posted a 25 save shutout, Robbie Payne scored two goals, and the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings beat the Jamestown Ironmen for the fifth time on the season by a score of 4-0 on Saturday at the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West.

The first period featured the two North Division rivals feeling each other out. Both squads had a power play opportunity, but each failed to capitalize. The stanza ended with the two teams tied at a scoreless 0-0. Alex Okicki got the start for Kalamazoo and posted six saves on six shots. Joe Gladnick started for Jamestown and made fifteen saves of his own.

The second period was all Kalamazoo, as they found the back of the net three times. Trevor Boyd (2nd) got the scoring started for the Jr. K-Wings just 2:59 into the period, when he jammed home a rebound off a shot from Kyle Gattelaro.

Fifteen minutes and four scoreless power play opportunities later, Kalamazoo lit the lamp for the second time of the period. Robbie Payne tipped in a slap shot from Brett Beauvais. The goal for Payne was his nineteenth of the season, extending his team lead.

Only 42 seconds later, Taylor Burden notched his second of the season on a great individual effort. Burden streaked down the outside of the ice and finished off a nice toe drag past the sprawling goaltender Gladnick, Andrew Graves creditied with the lone assist.

The third period, laced with penalties and chippy play, yielded no goals until Robbie Payne found himself in the midst of a 3-on-0. Payne took the pass from Jacob McDowell and Gatterlaro and made no mistake as he buried his 20th of the season to give Kalamazoo a 4-0 lead.

The final horn sounded and Kalamazoo skated away with a 4-0 victory over division rival Jamestown. Alex Okicki's first career shutout earned the first shutout of the season for the Jr. K-Wings.

Sunday, December 11th Vs. Traverse City North Stars. 4-2 Loss.

Kalamazoo, MI- Taylor Burden scored in the second period against his former team, but it proved to be too little as the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings lost their afternoon contest to the Traverse City North Stars by a final score of 4-2 on Sunday at the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West.

Traverse City dictated the play throughout the entire first period. They found the back of the net early against Kalamazoo, as it only took 1:58 for them to get on the board. It was Jared Van Wormer scoring his seventh on the season, beating Alex Okicki, who was making his second consecutive start. -MORE- Only 41 seconds later, Traverse City would light the lamp yet again. Seth Adams notched his second of the season, when his redirection beat Okicki to make the game 2-0. They took their two-goal lead into the locker room after twenty minutes of play.

It took under a minute for Kalamazoo to pull the game to within one in the second period. Taylor Burden scored his third of the season, and his second in as many nights when his nifty backhander beat Traverse City goaltender, Kyle Laslo.

Four minutes later, the North Stars would re-establish their two-goal lead on a laser of a wrist shot from forward, Alex Taulien, his sixth of the season.

Kalamazoo brought it to within a goal on a power play tally from Kyle Gattelaro (9th). He tipped home a slap shot from Brett Beauvais, who has tallied three assists in his last two outings.

The third period was scoreless for every second but the last one. Will Badner slid home an empty-netter with time expiring to seal the victory for the North Stars.
