The Texas Tornado had a busy weekend, playing three games in three days against the Corpus Christi IceRays. The teams split the first two games at Dr Pepper Arena and hit the road to play Sunday's game in Corpus Christi at AmericanBank Center. That one was tied 5-5 at the end of regulation, but Jordan Greenberg picked up the game-winning goal a little less than midway through the overtime period.
Friday December 9th- Tornado battle back, eventually fall to Corpus Christi, 3-2
The Texas Tornado allowed the first three goals of their game against the Corpus Christi IceRays on Friday night, and though they battled back to cut the defecit to one, they were unable to score the game-tying goal and fell by a score of 3-2 . Reid Mimmack made his third straight start in net, but his 26 saves were not enough to beat Anthony Stolarz. Stolarz stopped 24 of 26 Tornado shots en route to his third straight victory against the Tornado this season . After a scoreless first period, the IceRays got goals from Matthew Weis and Frank Misuraca in the second period, and an early third-period marker from Beau Walker made it a 3-0 IceRays lead. Jack Prince and Nick Neville scored to draw within one, but Stolarz would not be beaten again.
Saturday, December 10th - Lovick's four points give Texas 5-3 win over IceRays
In a back-and-forth Saturday night contest that featured three ties and three lead changes, the Texas Tornado defeated the Corpus Christi IceRays by a score of 5-3. Jordan Lovick had a goal and three assists, while Joakim Jutras made 16 of 19 saves to pick up his 12 th win of the season. The Tornado peppered IceRays goaltender Anthony Stolarz, who lost a game against the Tornado for the first time in four tries this season. Lovick scored the Tornado's first goal of the game, which tied the score at 1 in the first period. He also assisted on goals by Conner Burton, Mico Solorzano, and Jack Prince. Prince also scored earlier in the game for his team-leading 14th and 15th goals of the season.
Sunday, December 11th- Jordan Greenberg strikes in OT, Tornado win 6-5
The Texas Tornado trailed the Corpus Christi IceRays 4-2 at the start of the third period and 5-4 with three minutes left in regulation, but battled back to earn a 6-5 overtime victory at AmericanBank Center on Sunday. The overtime winner went to Jordan Greenberg, who had four points and scored along with his brother Justin for the fifth time this season. Jordan Lovick also scored twice and now has seven points in his last two games. Reid Mimmack came on at the start of the third period to replace Joakim Jutras in goal and got the win, making saves on 5 of the 6 shots he faced in limited action.
Upcoming Games and Promotions
Texas will travel to Wichita Falls for a pair of games on December 16th and 17th before the Tornado host their New Year's Eve Party before the Party on December 28th against Corpus Christi. The IceRays will be back at Dr Pepper Arena on January 5th while the Tornado will host the Odessa Jackalopes on January 6th. January 13th and 14th is the Tornado WinterFest benefitting Children's Medical Center. The Tornado will be wearing retro jerseys that weekend against Wichita Falls and Odessa, with the proceeds from a post-game auction going to Children's Medical Center.
