
Jr. K-Wings Tender Signing Named Mr. Hockey

Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, proud member of the North American Hockey League, announces that forward Gerald Mayhew, one of its first NAHL tender signings for next season, has been selected as Michigan's Mr. Hockey.
Guiding the Wyandotte Roosevelt Bears to the their first State Championship in school history on March 12th, Mayhew capped off a senior season, where he dazzled the competition scoring 44 goals in leading the Bears to a 27-3 record.
"This is a tremendous honor for Gerald," said Marc Fakler, general manager and head coach. "This is a result of his consistency and hard work throughout the season and demonstrated sportsmanship and leadership."
Mayhew, who captained the Bears this season, is the first Wyandotte player to receive the title given annually to the top high school hockey player in the state by the High School Coaches Association. He was also selected to the Michigan High School Dream Team.
"He is a very skilled player and possesses a strong desire to win," said Fakler. "His character and state championship experience will be an asset as we build our program."
The 5-10, 160 pound forward was also the leading scorer in the Michigan Developmental Hockey League (MDHL), a pre-season high school all-star league. He scored 15 goals and 24 points in 11 MDHL contests.
Stadium Management Co. owns the Wings Stadium Complex, the Kalamazoo Wings professional hockey team, Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings and Wings West. The Wings Stadium Complex is comprised of three buildings; Wings Stadium seats more than 5,100 fans for K-Wings home games and more than 8,000 people for concerts and other stage events. The Annex seats 1,367 for ice events and can seat up to 2,850 for non-ice events such as car, boat, and trade shows. The Cube is the newer of the three facilities and plays host to both ice and non-ice events. All three buildings along with the newly acquired and named Wings West facility, which has two ice rinks and the Center Ice Sports Bar, are available for rental and feature numerous catering and meeting opportunities.
