Jr. Blues take two of three from first Place North Iowa

The Springfield Jr. Blues continued their winning ways by beating the NAHL Central Division leader N. Iowa Outlaws two out of the three games played this weekend at the Nelson Center.

North Iowa struck first with a 3-1 friday night win in what might have been one of the finest games of hockey played this year. "We got beat tonight but we didn't beat ourselves", stated coach Chris Wyler, who was happy with the team's overall play.

On Saturday, The Blues - behind a shutout performance by goaltender Phil Cook - beat the Outlaws 7-0. Springfield dominated the entire gajme from end to end and scored 4 power play goals on six attempts. Cory Patterson (5 points) and Steve Mohler(3 points) led the offensive way with two goals each.

In a rare Sunday afternoon tilt, The Blues beat the Outlaws 4-1. Four different players scored for Springfield. Darren Rowe(unassisted) Matt Globke(Paine, Larke, Jon Gaffney(Globke, Lark) and Richie Zobak (empty net) did the scoring. Sadly, star youg forward Chris Gentile fractured his leg with 8 seconds left in the game, which ended his season.

"I'm very happy with the way our guys played this weekend", stated Wyler. "It's all coming together for as at exactly the right time of the year. We are going to make it interesting for the rest of the year. "

The wins put the Blues in a tie with S. Minnesota for second place in the division. Huge crowds turned out to watch the Blues take on the Outlaws. The three game weekend set an attendance record with friday night's 1493, Saturday's 1803 and Sunday's attendance at 803.

The Blues take on North Division leader next Friday night in St. Louis and Saturday night again, back at the Nelson Center.
