ALPENA, Mich. - Kevin Lynch (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and Kenny Ryan (Franklin Village, Mich.) each tallied goals, and Michael Clemente (Great Falls, Va.) made a season-best 40 saves, allowing the U.S. National Under-17 Team to record a 2-0 win against the Alpena IceDiggers here tonight.
"Michael [Clemente] was outstanding in net tonight," said Ron Rolston, head coach of the U.S. National Under-17 Team. "He made a number of difficult saves through traffic, and he had great puck awareness. As a team, we did what we had to do win, and played with a lot of poise."
After over 53 minutes of scoreless action, Lynch contributed his team-leading fourth game-winning goal at the 13:05 mark of the final period, thanks to an assist from Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, N.Y.). Ryan tacked on an empty-net marker with 11 seconds in regulation, his ninth tally of the season.
Clemente picked up his second win of the weekend, and improved his record to 7-3-1 with the U.S. National Under-17 Team this year. Nate Pellegrino stopped 27 of the 28 shots he saw for the IceDiggers.
The U.S. National Under-17 Team (26-24-2) hosts the Traverse City North Stars in its final home game of the regular season this Wednesday (Feb. 27) at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Puck drop is slated for 7:30 p.m. EST.
Notes: Team USA has shut out two opponents this season ... Its last blanking came in an 8-0 victory over Canada's Team Atlantic (Dec. 29) at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in London, Ontario ... Kevin Lynch recorded his 15th goal and 20th point of the 2007-08 campaign ... Kenny Ryan filed his 21st point of the year ... Jerry D'Amigo also added his 20th point of the season.
