The Springfield Jr. Blues continued their winning ways against the Port Huron Fighting Falcons, winning 4-0 and 4-3 over the weekend. The two wins gives the Jr. Blues a 4-0 record and season series sweep over the Fighting Falcons.
Jr. Blues Win 4-0
Leon stops 14, Fazio scores 2 in victory
The Jr. Blues stepped off the bus in Port Huron and immediately brought the game to the Fighting Falcons. Although the first period Friday night ended scoreless, the Jr. Blues held an 8-2 advantage in shots and had multiple chances.
Ryan Atkinson got the Jr. Blues on the scoreboard first, scoring on a powerplay goal, with assists to Jeff McFarland and Parker Johnson. On the next shift, Brett Skibba capitalized on a 2-on-1, netting a nice shot from the just inside the circle. Before the period would end, Mike Fazio (pictured above) would score another powerplay goal for the Jr. Blues.
Fazio would add his second powerplay goal of the night in the third period to give the Jr. Blues a 4-0 lead and win.
Matt Leon was strong in net, earning a shutout, stopping all 14 shots he faced.
Jr. Blues Earn Sweep
Ranum scores winner in 4-3 game
Micah Ranum scored his first goal in a Jr. Blues sweater, giving the team a 4-3 win and season series sweep of the Fighting Falcons.
The Jr. Blues fell behind 1-0 and 3-1 in the second period. Ryan Atkinson put the Jr. Blues on the board first, scoring his 4th goal in his last 4 games. Jack Sloan made the game 3-2 with just over a minute remaining in the second. Less than 30 seconds later Parker Johnson deflected a Terry Leabo shot to even the score at 3.
Just over a minute into the third Trevor Stone won a draw to Micah Ranum who buried a shot top shelf from the faceoff circle to give the Jr. Blues a lead 4-3 and eventual win.
Matt Leon was strong in net making 23 saves. The win gave the Jr. Blues their 4th win over Port Huron and 4-0 record for the season.
Jr. Blues Travel to Alaska for 4 Games
Jr. Blues to play Kenai River and Fairbanks
The Jr. Blues travel to Alaska this Wednesday for a 12-day road trip that includes 2 games against the Kenai River Brown Bears this weekend and 2 against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs next weekend.
The team will play Kenai River this weekend. The Jr. Blues played Kenai to open their home schedule back in September and lost both games. Despite outshooting Kenai 50-20 on Saturday night they were beat by a hot Brown Bears goaltender.
The Jr. Blues are 3-3 since Christmas break, lead by Ryan Atkinson, who has 5 goals, Matt Leon, who is 3-1 and Jeff McFarland who has 4 assists.
