Jr. Blues Continue Homestand This Weekend

November 9, 2011 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Springfield Jr. Blues News Release

After two hard-fought games against Topeka, the Springfield Jr. Blues aim to get back in the win column as they return to the Nelson Center this weekend for a three-game set vs. the Janesville Jets.

The Jr. Blues currently sit fourth in the NAHL Midwest Division but look to move up in the standings with nine of their next 13 games at home.

This Friday, November 11, 7:00 pm, the Jr. Blues will have a Salute to our Military in honor of Veteran's Day. All veterans and members of the military will receive free admission and their family members will receive 1/2 price admission. Local military personel will participate in the national anthem by presenting a large flag over the ice. Master Sargeant Deb Schmidt of the Illinois Air National Guard will sing the National Anthem.

Katie Tobin, the wife of Sgt. Andrew Tobin, will be presented with a plaque in honor of Sgt. Tobin's sacrifice for our country. Andrew Tobin, a Jacksonville resident, was killed in action on August 24 in Afghanistan. Katie Tobin will also drop the ceremonial first puck of Friday's game.

The Jr. Blues will wear special camoflauge jerseys in honor of the U.S. military for Friday's game. The jerseys will be auctioned after the conclusion of the game.

Saturday is Mini Stick give-away, Sunday is Thanksgiving Food Drive/Player Magnet give-away

On Saturday, November 12, the first 250 fans will receive a Springfield Jr. Blues mini stick. The puck drops at 7:00 pm.

Sunday, November 13 will be the Thanksgiving Food Drive and the second of eight player magnet give-aways. Fans are encouraged to bring a canned or non-perishable food item to this game. All food will be donated to Catholic Charities or Sojourn Shelter. Sunday's game starts at 4:00 pm.

As always, reasonably-priced concessions including pizza, soft drinks and beer will be available.
