Traverse City North Stars News Release

PORT HURON - The Traverse City North Stars ended one streak, began another, and welcomed back some scoring punch on Wednesday at McMorran Arena, riding the hot hand of goalie Kyle Laslo to a 2-0 win over Port Huron.

The victory was the Stars' second in a row, and put an end to first-place Port Huron's six-game triumphant streak. The contest also marked the return of forward Sean Murphy, who spent 40 games with Traverse City last season after being acquired from Austin.

Laslo (Fenton, MI/Osoyoos KIJHL) made 33 stops, including 14 in a fast-and-furious third period, to record his second shutout - and seventh victory - of the season. His goals-against average dipped under two (1.99), and save percentage burgeoned to .937 over his 13 starts.

Murphy (Cary, NC/Tri-City USHL) made his return to the North Stars a memorable one, opening the scoring 3:01 into the second period. He shoveled the puck into the Port Huron net after Jon Farkas (Brighton, MI/Compuware U18) skated it nearly cost-to-coast and stormed the Falcons' crease.

Mitchell Snider (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars NAHL) made it 2-0 a little more than nine and a half minutes into the third frame, with fellow TC native Jared Van Wormer (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars NAHL) on the assist. The Fighting Falcons returned fire with a furious power play rally that commenced at the 11:37 mark, but Laslo and the Stars' penalty kill unit held fast.

The North Stars will travel to Flint on Friday (Nov. 11) for a one-game clash with the Michigan Warriors before returning to Port Huron for another Wednesday affair with the Fighting Falcons on Nov. 16. TC will return to the friendly confines of Centre ICE Arena for a Nov. 18-19 series with Port Huron.
