Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, Michigan (May 1st) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks are proud to announce that Defenseman Joseph Cecconi has made his college commitment to play for the University of Michigan Wolverines out of the Big Ten Conference following his junior career.
Cecconi, the Youngstown, New York native, played in 28 games this past season with the Lumberjacks after being acquired in a trade with the Green Bay Gamblers in December and registered two goals and four assists to go along with a plus-one rating. Additionally, Cecconi made his USHL debut with Muskegon back on December 29th at home against the Youngstown Phantoms. The Lumberjacks' blueliner was a fifth round selection (70th overall) by the Gamblers during the 2013 USHL Phase Two Draft.
"I decided to commit to the University of Michigan because I felt that it was the right fit for me, and the coaching staff made me feel right at home when I took my official visit to Ann Arbor," said Cecconi. "I loved the campus setting that Ann Arbor had to offer, and the overall atmosphere that surrounds Michigan is one of the best in the entire country."
Before coming to the USHL, Cecconi played the better part of two seasons with the Buffalo Junior Sabres Midget Minor squad totaling 20 goals and 37 assists in 104 games played.
Cecconi becomes the second Lumberjack on the 2013-14 roster to make a commitment to play collegiately for the Wolverines following his time in the USHL joining teammate Cooper Marody, who committed to Michigan in early December.
The Muskegon Lumberjacks are proud members of the United States Hockey League, the nation's only Tier I junior hockey league and the leading producer of NCAA players and National Hockey League draft picks in the United States. The Lumberjacks' organization prides itself on developing not just premier hockey talent, but also exceptional young men outside the arena of sports.
