Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks, Class A Affiliate of the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox, had two players named to the 2008 California League All-Star team, set to compete against the All-Stars of the Carolina League on June 24. Third baseman Jorge Jimenez and catcher Jon Still both earned the votes of league managers and general managers to be so honored. This is the first All-Star invitation for both players.
Jimenez has ranked among the league leaders in hitting throughout the season. His .357 batting average currently stands second in the California League. The 23-year-old infielder leads the JetHawks with 66 hits and 12 doubles. A native of Puerto Rico now residing in Porterville, California, Jimenez has recently shown his flexibility by filling in at first base. This is his first season at the Advanced Class A level after skipping a level from Short-Season Lowell. Jimenez was originally a 16th round draft choice in 2006.
Still has powered his way to the All-Star team from the very first series of the season in which he hit four home runs. At one point within the first few weeks of the season, the 23-year old catcher led both the Major and Minor Leagues in home runs. Still's 13 long balls are currently tied for second best in the league and his 31 RBI leads all JetHawks players. The Mississippian was a fourth round draft choice coming out of North Carolina State in 2006.
The 2008 California League-Carolina League All-Star Game will be played Tuesday, June 24 and will be hosted by the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. In addition to the game, other All-Star events include the annual home run derby.
JetHawks players have made quite a splash during recent All-Star games. Last season's contest in Stockton, California saw JetHawks outfielder Bubba Bell earn the game's MVP award.
Individual game tickets for all JetHawks home games are available in person at the JetHawks Box Office Monday - Friday from 10 AM - 5 PM or Saturday's from 10 AM - 3 PM. Great ticket packages for multiple games are also available starting at just $56 for eight games. More information is available on-line at www.JetHawks.com.
