Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The JetHawks get their first grand slam of the season when Josh Reddick hit his tenth home run of the season, but their comeback bid falls short as they drop the final game of a four game set against the Visalia Oaks 9-7 Monday night in front of 1,163 at Clear Channel Stadium. The loss drops the JetHawks back into second place, a game behind the Lake Elsinore Storm with six games left in the race for the first-half title.
The Oaks took advantage of an Argenis Diaz error in the first inning to plate Pedro Ciriaco, before adding five runs in the second off JetHawks starter Tony Bajoczky to take a 6-0 lead. With two outs in the third, the Oaks got a single from Manny Ferrer. Tyler Jones followed with his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to make it 9-0, all the Oaks runs coming across with two out in the inning.
In the fourth, the JetHawks started their comeback. Jason Place ripped his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot to left getting the JetHawks on the board. In the sixth, Matt Sheely tripled to left and a Place groundball scored him to make it 9-2.
After loading the bases in the sixth, Lancaster came up big in the eighth. Daniel Nava singled with one out. Lars Anderson followed with a single and a walk to Jon Still loaded the bases for Reddick. Reddick ripped a 1-2 fastball from Oaks pitcher Josh Ellis over the right field fence for the grand slam and the JetHawks were within three. Lancaster got the tying man to the plate in the ninth. After Nava reached third on an error, Anderson brought him home with his second hit of the night, a single up the middle, and the JetHawks had the tying man at the plate. Jon Still went down looking and Reddick popped out to third to end the ballgame. Anderson has now hit in 12 straight ballgames for Lancaster.
Tony Bajoczky (2-2) takes the loss for Lancaster, Cesar Valdez (9-3) earns the win for Visalia.
