Today Brantley Jordan climbed the minor league ranks, as he is now a member of the Peoria Chiefs. The Chiefs are trying to grab the wildcard in the Midwest League. With a 31-32 record in the second half, they trail the crestfallen Clinton LumberKings by 4 games in the Midwest Western Division.
This season, Jordan (4-1-1) appeared in 27 games and posted a 2.08 ERA for the New Jersey Cardinals. He allowed earned runs in only 3 outings this season, and finished 11 games with 1 save. In 8 contests Jordan struck out multiple hitters, and left the game without yielding a hit 15 times. In games in which Brantley Jordan pitched, the Cardinals were 15-12. Jordan is the sixth 2003 Cardinals pitcher to be called up to Peoria. Bob Runyon, Rich Scalamandre, and Buddy Blair, Erik Drown, and Roberto Batista are already members of the Chiefsstaff.
The New Jersey Cardinals add three new players, all from the Johnson City Cardinals, to its 2003 roster for the final week of the 2003 season. St. Louis native Sal Frisella was drafted in the 37th round by the parent club, St. Louis Cardinals. Also known as Paul, the 60, 220 pound Frisella can play each of the outfield positions. For Johnson City of the Appalachian League, he was amongst the league leaders in several categories. Batting .337 (3rd) with a .549 slugging percentage (2nd), Frisella led the Appy League in on-base percentage (.434) at the time of his departure from JCC.
Two pitchers join the Cardspitching staff, Justin Garza and Miguel Aguero. He was drafted in the 9th round, 275th overall by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2003 first year player draft. The 61, 190 pound hurler began the season with the Johnson City Cardinals. Garza (3-0-2) threw 21 games in relief en route to collecting 2 saves. His two most impressive numbers were his 1.71 ERA and his 4.2 Ks per walk. After starting half of his appearances for Johnson City last season, Miguel Aguero has become a full-time starter this year. At 60, 180 lbs, Aguero (4-5) left JCC with a 3.69 ERA and averaged 3.83 punchouts per game.
New Jersey begins its final homestand of the season Wednesday, August 27th with the Aberdeen Ironbirds. Wednesdays game will begin at 7:15 PM with the gates to open at 6 PM. Also entering Skylands Park this week are the Batavia Muckdogs.
