Vermont Lake Monsters News Release
BURLINGTON, VT --- Champ is resting comfortably after successful surgery in Canada on Tuesday afternoon to repair his left eye that was detached during the Vermont Expos game with the Aberdeen IronBirds on Saturday evening, the team announced today.
The Expos mascot will be at 100% and ready to go when Vermont begins a two-game homestand with Lowell on Wednesday. The Expos will play the Spinners both Wednesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 7:05 p.m.
Champ was his usual quiet self when asked about both the incident and how he is feeling today. Champ's injury occurred when he was struck in the face by a baseball out of the Aberdeen bullpen as he was leaving the field following the signing of Take Me Out To The Ballgame in the middle of the seventh inning.
Fans wishing to express their "Get Wells" for Champ can do so by signing a card at the Westaff Guest Relations Booth at Centennial Field on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
