Joliet Tops Fargo-Moorhead 11-4

FARGO, N.D. - The Joliet JackHammers scored ten runs in the top of the fourth inning and won the rubber match game against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 11-4 in front of 3,554 fans at Newman Outdoor Field in the Sunday matinee. JackHammers starter RHP Derek Barrows (1-0) earns his first win of the season and RedHawks starter LHP Broc Coffman (6-3) suffers his third loss of the season.

The RedHawks played the running game in the first inning with SS Zach Penprase nabbing second and third for his league-leading 15th and 16th stolen bases of the season. With one out and a runner in scoring position, RedHawks CF Nic Jackson hit a right-field flare to plate Penprase and LF Justin Justice hit a two-out single to push Jackson home and make it 2-0 for the home team.

RedHawks 1B Alan Rick hit a second inning solo shot, his sixth of the season, to make it 3-0 RedHawks. The JackHammers got on the board in the top of the fourth inning on DH Tydus Meadows second home run of the season. The JackHammers benefited from two booted balls and pushed across a pair of runs to tie it at three all. With nobody out and the bases loaded, the JackHammers batted around with RF Tim Alberts and 1B Freddie Thon capping the JackHammers ten-run fourth with back-to-back home runs.

In the top of the sixth inning, Meadows homered over the center-field batter's eye to give the JackHammers an 11-3 lead.

RedHawks RHP Garry Bakker, LHP Broc Coffman, LF Mike Coles, RHP Nick Fellman, CF Nic Jackson and SS Zach Penprase will all partake in the Northern All-Star Game July 7 in Joliet, IL. The RedHawks resume regular season play with a seven-game road trip against the Kansas City T-Bones and Joliet JackHammers from July 9-16.
