Johnson Doubles Twice But X's Fall To Gary

The Sioux City Explorers fall to the Railcats 4-0 in nine innings at Lewis and Clark Park. X's centerfielder Matty Johnson had two doubles and a stolen base on the contest. X's lefty Brandon Stennis had a great first professional start, going six scoreless innings.

Pitching was the name of the game for both ball clubs, with neither team scoring a run until the eighth inning. In the eighth, Railcats first baseman Dustin Geiger cracked a double to score a runner from third for the first run of the game. Two bases loaded walks allowed runners to cross home, giving the Railcats the late 3-0 lead.

In the ninth, Gary SouthShore plated one more. Railcats left fielder Brennan Metzger reached base-on-balls, stole second base and scored off a Dustin Geiger RBI single, giving the Railcats a four run lead. Final score, Railcats 4, Explorers 0.

Explorers starting pitcher Brandon Stennis (1-0) pitched a terrific game in his first professional start going six innings with five strikeouts and no runs allowed. X's right-hander (2-1) was charged with the loss, allowing three runs in the eight inning.

Railcats starter Fernando Gonzalez (3-1) got the no decision giving up 0 runs in six innings. Gary SouthShore reliever Matt Solter (2-2) received the win, pitching a scoreless seventh inning. Railcats lefty Andy Roberts (s-2) finished with the save.

X's outfielder Matty Johnson and Michael Lang both had two hits on the contest. Johnson went 2 for 3 with two doubles, a walk and a stolen base. Lang had two hits and a stolen base as well.
