
Hawks Win Third Straight with 6-5 Win over Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks used a three run seventh inning to pull ahead and beat the Sioux Falls Canaries 6-5 before 2,824 fans at the Bird Cage in Sioux Falls.
Tyler Alexander started on the mound for the 'Hawks. He faced the minimum through the first two innings but yielded a run in the third. R.J. Perucki doubled and then was driven in by Chris Grayson giving the Canaries a 1-0 lead.
The RedHawks would respond in the top of the fourth. Joe Bonfe led off the frame with a double and would score two batters later on a Luke Bailey single tying the game 1-1. They would also score in the sixth taking the lead. Joe Dunigan reached on a fielder's choice and would proceed to steal second. He then advanced to third on a wild pitch and would score on an error making it 2-1.
The lead was short lived as Sioux Falls exploded in the bottom of the sixth. The Canaries would score three runs highlighted by a two RBI double form David Bergin propelling the 'Birds ahead 4-2.
Meanwhile, Tyler Alexander stayed strong on the mound. He went 7.2 innings, allowing four runs on eleven hits with three walks and four strikeouts. He managed to strand ten Canaries working his way in and out of jams for a majority of the night.
Fargo-Moorhead would strike right back in the top of the seventh. Zach Penprase scored on a Drew Muren single and Joe Bonfe belted his fifth homer of the season, a two run shot, pushing the RedHawks ahead for good.
The RedHawks would tack on one more run in the top of the ninth. Penprase singled and would later score on a sac fly from Mozingo making it 6-4 and Doug Simunic went to closer Mike Nesseth to finish the game.
The Canaries would not go quietly as former big-leaguer Jason Repko singled to lead off. Brian Humprhies doubled scoring Repko but Nesseth struck out Richard Stock to end the game earning him his 16th save of the season.
Alexander (4-5) earns his fourth straight win in as many starts while Sioux Falls' starter Miguel Pena took the no-decision. Jon Jones (1-3) took the loss for the 'Birds in relief.
Fargo-Moorhead wins it's third straight and improves to 37-51 while the Canaries slip to 32-56. The RedHawks are 8-2 in their last ten games and with the win clinch their sixth consecutive series win. The series finale is scheduled for tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
