Blasters Beat Lincoln to Begin Final Home Stand

Joplin, MO-The Blasters opened their final seven-game home stand of the season with a 3-2 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs Monday night at Joe Becker Stadium.

Joplin (46-41) has now won three straight but still sits one game back of wild-card leading Laredo after the Lemurs beat Grand Prairie Monday. The Blasters have taken six of the first seven meetings with Lincoln (30-57) this season. The Saltdogs have lost a season-high ten straight.

Lincoln jumped on Joplin early with a two-spot in the third. Tucker White reached base with a one-out single to right. Eddie Young walked. Aaron Payne then doubled to the warning track in left and drove in both runners for a 2-0 lead.

The Blasters leveled the game in the fourth and took the lead for good in the fifth. Maikol Gonzalez led off the fourth with a base hit to center. With one out, both Omar Luna and Carlos Ramirez walked to load the bases. Jake Taylor brought in Joplin's first run with a single to right. The tying run scored from third when Jesus Solorzano was hit by a pitch. Joplin took a 3-2 lead in the fifth. With one out, Gonzalez lined a single to right. He stole second and reached third on a catcher's throwing error. The next batter, Matt Padgett, scorched a single to right that scored Gonzalez with the go-ahead run.

On the mound, Josue Montanez stretched his win streak to three for Joplin. Montanez (4-2) lasted six innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Chase Cunningham suffered the loss for Lincoln. Cunningham (0-2) also went six and gave up three earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks. Winston Abreu posted his 18th save of the season after one walk and one strikeout in the ninth.

Each team had eight hits in the contest. Matt Padgett went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Blasters. Maikol Gonzalez collected two hits and two runs. Tucker White had the only two-hit game for the Saltdogs. Lincoln committed two errors in the game.
