John Isner to Return to the Boston Lobsters in July

March 4, 2014 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
Boston Lobsters News Release

John Isner, the top-ranked American on the ATP World Tour, will be returning to the Boston Lobsters for the 2014 Mylan World TeamTennis (WTT) season.

"I'm excited to return to play for the Boston Lobsters," said the 28-year-old Isner. "I love being part of a team and I'm looking forward to playing in front of the great Lobsters fans."

The North Carolina native played three seasons with the Lobsters beginning in 2010 and he will be rejoining the club as the ATP's No. 13 ranked player in the world and the top ranked American player two years running.

At 6'9", Isner has a powerful serve and incredible stamina. The University of Georgia graduate holds the world record for the longest match in tennis history when he defeated Frenchman Nicolas Mahut, 70-68 in a match that lasted 11 hours and five minutes.

Isner also performs extremely well on the big stage. He has won eight career singles titles in nine appearances to go with three doubles titles in just three appearances.

Isner's last match for the Boston Lobsters was on July 23, 2012, which included a fanfare send-off to represent the USA at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Isner's match with the Lobsters this July will be sponsored by Joan Norton Financial Services. The evening will be dedicated to Joan's cousin, Ed Norton, who lost his battle with cancer last year. Joan Norton knew from the very first time she saw Isner play that he would be perfect for the Crustacean Nation. "I recognized him as a great player when I saw him play against Federer in Toronto soon after he turned pro, and thought that the Boston Lobsters should recruit this guy," said Norton.

The date of Isner's match will be released, along with the Lobsters full Mylan WTT schedule, later this month. The Lobsters will play 14 regular season matches, including seven on their home court at the Manchester Athletic Club in Manchester, Mass. "This season the Boston Lobsters are planning to feature health and wellness initiatives at the venue and this match will incorporate that platform," said Darlene Hayes, General Manager of the Boston Lobsters.

Next up is completing the team roster on March 11 when the Mylan WTT Roster Draft takes place in Indian Wells, Calif., at 12:00 pm EST. The Draft can be followed at WTT.com/2014Draft.
