Nashville Sounds News Release

Best-selling author John Grisham will be appearing at Greer Stadium on Tuesday morning to address the crowd of young readers on hand at the Nashville Sounds game about literacy, baseball, and his new movie, "Mickey."

Grisham – whose library of best-sellers includes The Firm, The Pelican Brief, The Client, A Time to Kill, The Rainmaker, and The Chamber – has over 60 million books in print worldwide and dedicates much of his spare time to promoting literacy-related programs such as the Nashville Sounds Reading Club.

The Nashville Sounds Reading Club carries a longstanding track record of aiding literacy efforts through Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, and Northern Alabama. The program supports area schools by tying in children's natural affinity for baseball to the larger goal of literacy by creating incentives for the children that continue to read throughout the year.

The students who have reached their goals as assigned by their respective schools receive a free ticket to a Sounds game and have the opportunity to participate in a pre-game parade rewarding their accomplishments.

This year alone there are 302 schools involved in the program with over 96,000 students vying to reach their reading goals, the highest totals in the program's seven-year history. It is estimated that over 5,000 of the participants in the Sounds Reading Club will attend Tuesday's game.

The 49-year-old Grisham, a passionate baseball fan who dreamed of being a professional baseball player, now serves as a local Little League commissioner in Virginia. The six ballfields he built on his property have played host to over 350 children on 26 Little League teams.

Grisham will appear at Greer Stadium from approximately 10:00-10:40 a.m. and will be available for media interviews in front of the third-base dugout from 10:00-10:15 before he addresses the crowd.
