John Grant Blog No.5 – Egg Nog, Christmas And Scott Evans

Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Welcome back lax nation. It's time to break out the egg nog. Well I won't be, that stuff is downright foul, no pun intended. Does anyone really still drink the stuff? With Christmas right around the corner, I am sure the concoction will be flowing somewhere.

The holiday celebrating the birth of Christ will give me an opportunity to head home and see some old friends. I haven't been back to the birthplace of lacrosse since that little illness I had in the summer. For those of you unsure of where I mean, I am speaking of the lacrosse capital of Canada, Peterborough. I hope to see my parents as well, but it is tough to get to Sudbury where they live. For our American readers, Sudbury is just south of the North Pole. I will, however, have more time to visit up north this Christmas as the new NLL schedule has the 'Hawks doing battle in January not the end of December.

Speaking of doing battle, the league lost one heck of a warrior for the season this past weekend. The Rochester Knighthawks will be without the services of Scott Evans due to a major knee injury. "Scotty" was in great shape this preseason and was looking to lead the 'Hawks back to the promise land this season. Now the mighty purple and teal will be heading into the '09 campaign down their two top scorers. Not the start a rookie GM and his staff would have liked. I am still supremely confident that the boys will kick butt this year. The scary thing is that with two guys out, there is still an abundance of offensive firepower for the league to contend with. "Willy" will wally, I mean, rally the fellas, and the D will chip in with the bunch as well. One thing is for sure, there will be career shot totals on the K-Hawks roster now that "Evy" and myself won't be getting our 60 per game. Maybe we can race each other on crutches this season instead. On the serious tip, I wish the big fella a speedy recovery. He will be back filling the cage in no time.

Well, I am off to fill my face with chicken wings, while my Eagles try to take another big step toward making the second season.

In the legendary words of cousin Eddy, "Crapper's full, Merry Christmas."
