Joey Tavernese Named to Second Straight Team of the Week, Liam Callahan Receives Honorable Mention

Joey Tavernese earned his second straight MASL Team of the Week honor on Tuesday. Liam Callahan also received an honorable mention. The duo led Syracuse to a 9-5 victory over the Florida Tropics on Sunday.

Tavernese scored one goal in the first quarter of the match against Florida. He provided two more assists on the day as well. This marks Tavernese's eighth game this season with at least three points.

"This is another well-deserved honor for Joey," said Silver Knights head coach Ryan Hall. "His ability to put himself in the right positions and his anticipation of where the ball will end up is second to none. He has been our most consistent finisher this season."

Tavernese grows closer to stamping his name into the Silver Knights record books. With 36 points on the season, the Queens, New York native is seven points away from setting a single-season record for points by a Silver Knights player.

Tavernese also now has 18 assists on the season. He is now four assists away from setting a single-season record for assists by a Silver Knights player

Tavernese is making his presence felt among the league leaders in stats. He is fifth in the MASL in points (36), tied for tenth in the MASL in goals (18), and fourth in the MASL in assists (18).

Callahan scored two goals and added an assist in the victory over Florida. The former Syracuse University player recorded his first multi-goal game and first assist in the MASL during Sunday's match. Callahan now has five points on the season, with four goals and one assist.

The Silver Knights are back in action on Friday, February 2nd, as the Cedar Rapids Rampage visit the Oncenter War Memorial Arena. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
