Anderson Joes News Release

With a chance to end Macon's slim hopes of a South Coast League first-half championship, the Anderson left little doubt in game two of Friday's doubleheader, scoring seven runs in the first two innings en route to a 7-4 win. The Music had beaten the Joes, 4-2, in game one of the twinbill.

The first game saw complete games for both starting pitchers, with Macon's Ross Stout improving to 6-2 on the season with the win and Anderson's Pete Nickerson allow all four runs for the loss and an 0-2 record. The Joes' offense only mustered two runs and five hits against Stout in the seven innings.

Game two, however, was a different story. To keep its dimming chance at the first-half title alive, Macon needed to sweep Anderson in the doubleheader, as well as have South Georgia lose at least one game in its doubleheader. Instead, the Joes (12-32) put the Music (30-14) out of their misery early.

Normando Linero's two-run double in the first inning made it 3-0 Joes before he scored run number four on a Macon error, one of four they made between both games. In the fourth inning, Anderson received an RBI single from Tanner Rogers and a two-run double from Ryan Pressley to open up a 7-0 lead, before Macon scored four inconsequential runs to finalize the score at 7-4.

Pressley finished game two with three RBI, while Brandon Carter and Hector Borg each scored two runs.

Daniel "Duck" Howard made his first start of the year for Anderson after five relief appearances and earned his first win, improving to 1-0 after pitching six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out seven. Fabian Jimenez, also making his first start of the year for Macon, took the loss, giving up all seven runs and dropping to 0-1.

"I was ready to get out there and get a start," Howard said. "I told coach (Desi Wilson), if you ever need a pitcher to start a game, throw me in there, and I think he liked it."

The Joes and Music finish up their four-game series and the first-half schedules for each team with a game Saturday. First pitch is set for 7:07 p.m.
