Anderson Joes News Release
ALBANY, Ga. - Full of good luck last week, the Joes were snakebitten by a walk-off Doc Brooks single Tuesday night, handing South Georgia its 14th win in 15 games. The Peanuts scored all their runs in the final two innings to beat the Joes, 5-4, at Paul Eames Park.
Anderson (11-29) held control of the game throughout, taking a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning. It was then, however, that South Georgia's Brooks took over.
The Peanut right fielder hit a three-run homer to get South Georgia (29-9) within one in the bottom of the eighth. He would strike again in the ninth.
With the Joes up, 4-3, Will Krout entered, trying for his third save of the season. He allowed a lead-off single to Steve Butler, followed by a single to Jasha Balcom two batters later. Mike Caruso's RBI single tied the game and then Brooks came up after an intentional walk to Steve Garrabrants loaded the bases.
On an 0-1 pitch, Brooks pulled a chopper down the third base line that the Joes argued afterward was a foul ball. It was called fair, though, and counted for Brooks' fourth RBI of the night and South Georgia's first walk-off win of the season.
Until the last two innings, Anderson set the tone the entire game.
Starting pitcher Ronald Ball lasted 6.1 innings, allowing four hits and one walk, but giving up no runs and striking out four. Second baseman Brandon Carter went 3-for-4, including a lead-off home run to start the game. Carter scored two runs total. The Joes also received a bases loaded, two-run single from Richard Quihuis-Bell in the third inning, just the sixth hit this season for the Joes in 40 bases-loaded at-bats.
Josh Cowles earned the win for South Georgia, improving to 1-1. Krout's loss dropped him to 0-3.
Anderson is still yet to win a game at South Georgia, but tries again Wednesday night in the final game of the series.
First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
