Joes Crush Peanuts, 14-3

Anderson Joes News Release

ALBANY, Ga. - Less than a week after breaking the team record for runs scored in a game, the Anderson Joes raised the bar even higher Monday, pouring the offense on in a 14-3 win over the South Georgia Peanuts at Paul Eames Park.

The 14 runs eclipses the previous team-high 11 in one game, also set against South Georgia, last Wednesday. Anderson also broke the team record for most RBI in a game, driving in 11 runs in the contest, and fell just one hit shy of matching the team mark of 17.

Having never won at South Georgia (15-8, 48-19 overall), the Joes decided to buck that trend early.

Anderson (12-12, 25-44) posted four runs in the third inning, three in the fourth and six in the fifth, blitzing South Georgia starter Jerome Gamble for seven runs and reliever Josh Cowles for six.

Heath Keel hit his 11th home run of the season in the third inning, a mammoth two-run shot that cleared the raised wall in straightaway center field. Hector Borg's two-run single then highlighted the third inning before the Joes sent 12 hitters to the plate in the fifth, the most hitters Anderson has sent to bat in any inning this season.

Lost in the offensive outburst was Joes' ace Jan Granado's starting effort. For the second start in a row, Granado held the league's best-hitting team to just one run through six innings. He allowed only four hits and no walks while striking out four, leaving him just one strikeout short of being the first South Coast League pitcher to reach 100 Ks.

With the win, Granado improved to 6-3, while Gamble took his first loss of the year to drop to 2-1. Dave Whitfield earned his first save of the year, pitching the final three innings of the game with the lead well in hand. But the offense took top billing on the marquee.

Nine different batters had a hit for the Joes, including Granado himself, who went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Desi Wilson led the team with four RBI while Brandon Carter paced the scoring with three runs. The team hit five doubles, one home run and 10 singles against six South Georgia pitchers. The Joes have now won three in a row against a Peanuts team they started the year 1-12 against.

Anderson looks for its third series win in a row and five of the last six Tuesday. Dallas Mahan (2-0) is scheduled to start for Anderson against Shannon Wirth (8-2) for South Georgia. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
