Peanuts Pair Suspended

CONYERS, GA - The South Coast League of Professional Baseball has suspended South Georgia Peanuts 2B Joey Hooft and OF Doc Brooks for violation of the league's drug policy.
After hearing of the results, the SCL issued the following statement.
"The South Coast League's drug prevention policy covers everything from performance enhancing substances to recreational drugs and a failed sample can be attributed to many different factors. We will continue to promote a healthy and professional environment for our players, and a violation of the drug policy is something that undermines those ideals."
Under the current policy, a first time violation carries a 10 game suspension without pay. Last week, two additional SCL players were suspended for diluted samples and SCL Medical Director Rob DeSantis continues to stress the importance of these procedures.
"We continue to make strides in keeping our game clean and want our players to understand the importance of a safe and healthy lifestyle," shared DeSantis. "As professional athletes, these young men are role models to young fans across the league, and we want to portray a positive image to all our supporters."
The South Coast League is currently the only independent league in the country with a written drug policy. As a league built on professional player development, the SCL will continue to provide the knowledge and resources necessary for their players to make a smooth transition into affiliated baseball.
