Joes Blanked by Peanuts

July 2, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Anderson Joes News Release

The Joes, hot as they had been all season, visited South Georgia with high hopes against the league's first-place team Monday. Instead, the Peanuts cooled the Joes down with a 6-0 win in front of 617 at Paul Eames Park.

For the first time all season, Anderson carried a three-game winning streak into a game, only to get shut out for the fifth time this season. The Joes momentum from their successful run the previous week quickly ran out as the Peanuts scored three runs in the first three innings.

South Georgia later tacked on a two-run homer from starting pitcher Chris Webb, which was a debatable foul ball down the left field line, which umpire George Sutko called fair but Joes manager Desi Wilson argued at length after the play. The Peanuts tacked on another run late, when catcher Nick Prosise drove in his second run of the night.

Joes starter Pete Nickerson allowed five of the six runs in four innings of work, taking the loss to drop to 0-1.

Webb earned his first win of the year, moving to 1-0, allowing no runs and only four hits across 5.2 innings.

The Anderson offense could not string a rally together, evidenced by their eight total baserunners reaching in seven different innings. Travis Hundley went 2-for-4, the only Joes player to have multiple hits in the game.

Anderson and South Georgia return to action Tuesday night, as the Joes still look for their first road win against the Peanuts.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
