Peanuts Win Fourth Straight

South Georgia Peanuts News Release


The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, won for the fourth time in a row Monday night by defeating Anderson 6-0. The win moved South Georgia to 28-9 on the season and lowered the magic number to seven.

South Georgia got ahead in the bottom of the second inning when Doc Brooks walked, eventually got around the bases and scored on a Nick Prosise sacrifice. The Peanuts put up two more runs in the third inning. With two outs, Jasha Balcom walked and then scored on a Joey Hooft triple. Hooft then came around to score when Steve Garrabrants singled him home.

The big shot came in the fifth inning. After Johnny Washington got a base hit to lead off the inning, Pitcher Chris Webb hit a home run over the left field wall. There was an argument following the home run that the ball went foul however the argument was not won and the home run counted.

South Georgia put up one more run in the eighth inning. With two outs, Ramon Downing hit a double and then scored on a Prosise single.

Webb earned his first win of the season pitching 5.2 innings and allowing no runs on four hits with three strikeouts and only one walk. Jake Upwood and Drew Shetrone combined to throw 3.1 innings allowing only one hit each. Shetrone had three strikeouts while Upwood has two.

Prosise led the way at the plate going 2-3 with two RBI. Six different Peanuts scored a run while Prosise was the only player with more than one ht. Webb also had two RBI with his home run.

The two teams play again on Tuesday night. Austin Weilep will get the start looking for his sixth win of the season. First pitch is set for 7:10.
