Asheville Altitude News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C., December 14 â The Asheville Altitude has acquired guard Joe Forte from the NBA's National Basketball Development League available player pool, according to an announcement by NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert and Altitude head coach Joey Meyer. The Altitude waived guard Nate Burton.
A first-round selection (21st overall) in the 2001 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, Forte played for the Seattle Sonics in 2002-03 after being traded from the Celtics. The 6-4, 192-pound All-America selection from the University of North Carolina ('03) was an early entry after averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists as a sophomore at UNC in 2000-01.
Forte, 23, was only the fourth sophomore in UNC history to earn consensus All-America honors, joining Michael Jordan, J.R. Reid and Jerry Stackhouse to be so honored. He was also the 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Player of the Year along with Duke's Shane Battier.
His career numbers at North Carolina stack up to an impressive 18.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He has played in 25 career NBA games.
Forte is expected to be in uniform tonight when the Altitude is host to the Florida Flame. He will wear jersey #40.
