PERSEVERANCE PAYS FOR CHUCKY: Roanoke Dazzle assistant coach and former NBA player Chucky Brown will don the cap and gown to pick up his undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University on Wednesday. Brown, who played 13 years in the NBA after leaving NC State as a player, completed his course work while coaching the Dazzle this fall, commuting the 3½ hours from Roanoke to Raleigh for classes.

GOING TO SCHOOL: Players and staff from NBDL teams continue to make visits to local schools a regular part of their activities, with three teams visiting students today. The Columbus Riverdragons will speak to 4th and 5th graders at Brewer Elementary about the importance of education, while the Huntsville Flight will be at Lynn Fanning Elementary to encourage students to keep reading. The Roanoke Dazzle will visit Morningside Elementary School to read to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.

FORTE TO ALTITUDE: The Asheville Altitude has acquired former University of North Carolina star guard Joe Forte and released guard Nate Burton. Forte was a 2001 first-round NBA selection by the Celtics and has also played with the Sonics. He is one of just four UNC sophomores to be named a consensus All-America, joining Michael Jordan, J.R. Reid and Jerry Stackhouse to be so honored. He was also the 2001 ACC Co-Player of the Year.

TRADING SPACES: Fayetteville and Roanoke completed the first trade of the NBDL season on Monday with the Patriots sending C Sean Finn to the Dazzle in exchange for SG Mike King. Finn is among league leaders in field goal percentage and King is among leaders in scoring and free throw percentage.
