Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, CA - For the second straight night the JetHawks celebrated walk-off base hit in extra innings. On Saturday night, the hero was Rene Garcia. The catcher singled with two outs in the 10th to score Telvin Nash and beat the Inland Empire 66ers 5-4 in the rubber game of the series at The Hangar.
The inning started with a Rafael Valenzuela double, the same way the 11th inning started on Friday night when Ben Orloff eventually drove him in to win 4-3.
Nash followed Valenzuela with a walk to bring up Jonathan Meyer. Meyer attempted a bunt which went straight back to the pitcher's mound allowing Eric Cendejas (1-1) to force Valenzuela at third. After an Enrique Hernandez fielder's choice ground out, Garcia singled to left to score Nash from third.
The JetHawks bullpen pitched out of a big jam in the top of the 10th to keep the game tied. The 66ers loaded the bases with one out against Patrick Urckfitz before manager Rodney Linares brought Jose Trinidad (3-1) in the game. Trinidad induced an inning-ending double play off the bat of pinch-hitter Anthony Pacione to maintain the tie.
Inland Empire's bullpen worked out of a tougher jam in the bottom of the ninth with the game on the line. Lancaster put runners at second and third with no out with the top of the order coming to the plate. Right-hander Kevin Nabors struck out Orloff and intentionally walked George Springer to load the bases with one out. Manager Bill Haselman brought left-hander Tyler Kehrer into the game and he struck out Adam Bailey for the second out. Cendejas entered and got Domingo Santana to fly out to right, ending the inning.
The JetHawks tied the game twice earlier in the game. They fell behind 3-0 after the first inning but scored three runs in the second inning. Orloff scored Meyer on a sacrifice fly and Springer tripled in two runs to tie.
After falling behind 4-3 in the fifth, Nash hit his 13th home run of the season in the sixth.
The bullpen tossed four scoreless innings in relief of starter David Martinez. Brian Streilein threw a season-high three innings and allowed just one hit. The bullpen tossed 10 scoreless innings in the final two games of the series.
Lancaster (25-24) will head off to Lake Elsinore to start a three game series with the Storm before heading north to Visalia for a three game series with the Rawhide. Sunday's series opener will begin at 2:05 pm at The Diamond. Right-hander Bobby Doran (4-3, 3.62) will start against Matt Andriese (3-3, 3.97).
