Jupiter, FL - Tyrell Jenkins was dominant on the mound, Aledmys Diaz launched a two-run home run in the third and the Palm Beach Cardinals took care of the Charlotte Stone Crabs 4-1 on Thursday night at Roger Dean Stadium. The three-game series is tied 1-1 heading into Friday's finale.

Jenkins (5-3) earned his first win and quality start since July 11 with a tremendous effort for Palm Beach (28-18, 64-51). The right-hander surrendered just one run on three hits over six innings, walked one and punched out a season-high seven batters on the evening. Jenkins didn't allow a hit after Josh Sale lined an RBI double deep to right-center for Charlotte (22-22, 53-58) in the fourth.

Diaz skied his first homer in a Palm Beach uniform over the wall in left field to put the Birds up 3-0 in the third inning. Greg Miclat reached base on a fielding error before Diaz stepped to the plate in just his second game for the St. Louis High-A affiliate this season.

Prior to Diaz' bomb, Bruce Caldwell and Ildemaro Vargas teamed up to get the Birds on the board in the second. Caldwell led off the inning with a single through the right side and was standing on second after a Jared Mortensen wild pitch later in the frame. With two outs, Vargas smoke an RBI single to left-center to bring Caldwell around to score and make it 1-0 in favor of the home team.

With a 3-1 advantage in the fifth inning, Luke Voit and Caldwell traded two-out doubles to tack on another run and cap the scoring at 4-1. Caldwell went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run while Voit and Vargas each chipped in two hits apiece to do their part offensively for the Cards.

The Palm Beach bullpen didn't offer any relief for Charlotte hitters as Logan Billbrough and Dixon Llorens combined for three scoreless innings to end the game. The pair allowed just one hit and one walk while striking out four in relief of Jenkins. Llorens picked up his ninth save of the season with two strong innings to close the game.

Palm Beach hurlers gave up just four hits total in the game.

Mortensen (0-1) only made it through four innings for the Crabs after being charged with three runs - two earned - on five hits. He took the loss for Charlotte.

The Cardinals have won eight of the last 10 meetings with the Stone Crabs in 2014.

The two teams will conclude the three-game set on Friday night. RH Luke Weaver (0-1, 27.00) will scale the bump for the Cardinals against RH Reinaldo Lopez (6-4, 3.40) for the Stone Crabs. First pitch will be at a special 5:35 p.m. start due to the final edition of Roger Dean Stadium's Movies in the Outfield following the game.
