Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

The Kansas City Royals announced that catcher Jeff Howell has been transferred back to the Naturals from Triple-A Omaha, their top level affiliate in the Pacific Coast League.

The 27-year old Howell is in his second season with the Naturals. He has yet to appear in a game this season for the Naturals, having spent the first week of 2010 on the seven-day disabled list (back) before heading to Omaha. In four games for the O-Royals, he batted .235 (4-for-17) with two RBI.

In 62 games with the Naturals last season, Howell posted a .262 average with four homers and 24 RBI. He missed about six weeks last summer with a thumb fracture. The backstop was the Royals' tenth-round selection in the 2005 draft.

In a corresponding move, catcher Ben Theriot has been transferred back to Advanced Class-A Wilmington. The Royals' ninth-round selection in last June's draft out of Texas State University, the 22-year old Theriot appeared in three games for the Naturals and was 1-for-5 with an RBI.

The Naturals' roster remains at the Texas League limit of 24 active players.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and play at state of the art Arvest Ballpark, located in Springdale. You can purchase season tickets and group outings with the Naturals by calling (479) 927-4900.
