Portland Lumberjax News Release

PORTLAND, September, 13, 2007 - The Portland LumberJax have re-signed defenseman Ray Guze to a one-year contract, as was announced by Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan today.

Known as the enforcer on the team, Guze was third on the team in 2007 with 47 penalty minutes. Guze also scored one goal, added three assists, and collected 44 loose balls through the season in 14 games of action.

The Surrey, British Columbia native will enter his third season with the Jax in 2008. Guze is the franchise leader in penalty minutes (91) and ninth all-time in loose balls collected (99).

Guze has played for the Coquitlam Adanacs of the Western Lacrosse Association for the past two seasons. Guze is in the middle of the Mann Cup Finals, where the Adanacs trail 3-2 to the Peterborough Lakers.

"Ray is one of those guys you hate to play against but love to have on your team", said Keenan. "He's an agitator, but most importantly for us, he's a solid defender"

"With the addition of (Michael) Kilby, (Kevin) Reid and the re-signing of Ray (Guze), I think we'll have a very physical and intimidating defense. When you combine that with the speed and skill of players like Brodie Merrill, Tyler Codron, Rich Morgan and Ian Crashley, we will be very solid in our own end and in transition."

Jax season tickets for the 2008 season start as low as $90. Nine game ticket packages include eight regular-season home games and a home playoff game. For more information or to reserve your seats call the Jax ticket office at (503)797-9739.
