Jason Tapp and Kalamazoo Shuts Out Bloomington

KALAMAZOO, Mich.. - Kalamazoo goalie Jason Tapp stopped all 45 shots he faced to hand the Bloomington PrairieThunder its first shutout loss of the season Friday, 5-0, in International Hockey League action before 2,212 people at Wings Stadium.

The loss dropped the PrairieThunder's record to 5-7 ahead of Saturday's 6 p.m. contest at Muskegon. Kalamazoo improved to 6-6.

The Wings scored two of their goals on the first two shots they took against losing goaltender Scott Fankhouser, who ended the night stopping 25 of 30 shots.

John Miller scored the first Wings' goal with 13:54 remaining in the first period off assists from Rob Jarvis and Bryan Jurynel. Glenn Detulleo scored 70 seconds later for Kalamazoo off assists from Tyler Willis and Jordan Little.

Tapp stopped 23 PrairieThunder shots on goal in the first period, while the Wings only had three shots.

Kalamazoo increased its lead to 3-0 in the second period on a goal by Lucas Drake off assists by Detulleo and Little with 18:52 left. The Wings then scored two goals in the final period to ice the victory.

Jarvis had one of the goals off by Mark Nebus and Rick Cleaver with 9:41 remaining. Tommy Lange had the other goal with an assist to Nebus.

Bloomington ended with a 45-30 advantage in shots on goal and was unsuccessful on 10 power play attempts. The Wings were shut out on eight power plays.

"Tapp played a very good game tonight, but we had our chances," said PrairieThunder coach 1arrod Skalde. "We can't give up two goals right off the bat and put ourselves in a hole like that. We have to put the puck in the net."
