CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders are excited to announce the hiring of Jared Brown to their coaching staff. Brown will join the RoughRiders staff in their return to USHL action this fall after being idle last season due to the Derecho storm.

Brown, 35, is coming off his first season as Assistant GM and Assistant Coach of the New Mexico Ice Wolves of the North American Hockey League.

"I'm very excited to join such a great organization," Brown said. "To be able to work with their staff led by Coach Carlson, with the great experience that he has, will be a great opportunity for me. I'm looking forward to learning from him."

Before joining the Ice Wolves staff, Brown had a lengthy playing career in hockey, including two years in the USHL for the Lincoln Stars ('05-'07). "I'm aware of how great an organization Cedar Rapids is based on my playing experience in the league," said Brown. The 5'11" Center was named to the USHL First All-Star team in 2006-2007 after tallying 71 points in 60 games.

The Gardner, Kansas native played college hockey at Northern Michigan University before a 10-year professional playing career in the US and Europe. Brown played in the Central Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League for a combined four seasons after college. He was named to the CHL All-Rookie Team in 2011-12 with the Quad City Mallards.

After his playing experience in the US, Brown spent the rest of his career in Europe. He was a part of a Championship team in 2017-18 as a member of MAC Budapest in the Erste Liga in Hungary. He scored 20 points in 15 games during the playoff run. He played his final season in 2020 before joining the Ice Wolves staff last season.

"Looking forward to working with Jared, he will bring very valuable experience to the RoughRiders organization," said Head Coach Mark Carlson. "Jared had a very successful playing career and he has both played for and worked with some very successful head coaches."

The RoughRiders are excited to welcome Jared and the Brown family to Ridertown! #WeRideTogether
