Orlando Apollos News Release

TODAY'S NEWS

The Apollos took the field today for their 18th practice at training camp - the team has been in San Antonio since January 4 and will return to Orlando on February 1.

FRIDAY FEELING: In exactly one week, the Apollos will break from training camp and return to Orlando with an eye on their home opener on February 9 at 8:00 p.m. ET against the Atlanta Legends.

BIG THREAT: WR Charles Johnson, one of the newest additions to the Apollos, is making a big impression at camp. The 6-2 product of Grand Valley State was added to the active roster on January 13 and has been making plays at practice ever since. Johnson was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft but emerged as a playmaker when he signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2014 - he was the third leading receiver that season with 31 receptions for 475 yards and two touchdowns. In total for the Vikings from 2014-16, Johnson put up 60 catches for 834 yards and two scores.

GUNTER ISLAND: Former Miami Hurricane LaDarius Gunter loves when the ball comes his way. Gunter had 18 pass breakups and six interceptions in his three years with the Hurricanes. He went undrafted in 2015, but ultimately landed with the Green Bay Packers and saw significant playing time starting 15 of 16 games in 2016, deflecting 12 passes.

Gunter told OrlandoApollos.com, "I need as many picks as possible. As many balls [as] I can take away, I want them. I need them."

The Apollos placed WR/QB Jeff Godfrey (UCF) on reserve/injured and waived DE Claudy Mathieu (Notre Dame College (OH)).
