Memphis Express News Release
TODAY'S HEADLINES
The Memphis Express left the pads at home on Friday for practice at Cornerstone Christian School, taking the field for 90 minutes of fine-tuning beginning at 10:00 am CT.
Friday featured 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 red zone work, a handful of third-and-short playcalls, punt team, two-minute drills, and a set of overtime situations.
HIGHLIGHTS
WR Christian Briggs (Southeastern Louisiana) had one of his best days at camp on Friday, starting out the day by high-pointing a touchdown reception in red zone 7-on-7. Briggs snagged another touchdown over the middle during the overtime segment, on a third down from QB Brandon Silvers (Troy).
In the last two-minute drill of the day, Briggs secured the first reception of a QB Christian Hackenberg (Penn State)-led drive that saw the signal-caller go 5-for-5 en route to a WR Chris Givens (Wake Forest) touchdown grab. WR Dontez Byrd (Tennessee Tech) got loose in secondary for the drive's biggest play, accounting for 40 of the drive's 75 yards.
CB Channing Stribling (Michigan) ended the second-to-last two-minute drill of the day by picking off a 3rd-and-7 pass looking for a receiver on a corner route to the right sideline. CB Jonathan Cook (Memphis) picked one off in the first session of two-minute drills, undercutting a hook route.
QUOTES
Head Coach Mike Singletary on the offensive line: "The offensive line is always one of the last teams to gel. They have so much timing and so many things coming at them. For our offensive line, I see some really good things. It's going to take a couple of weeks before they really become all that they can be, but I'm very excited for the possibilities."
OL Daronte Bouldin (Ole Miss) on familiarity with his O-Line teammates: ""We feel pretty comfortable with each other. A lot of the guys already played with each other, like the TSU guys, or me and Christian at Ole Miss. I feel like it's easy for us to get on the same page with things."
OL Daronte Bouldin (Ole Miss) on his unti's keys to improving: "It's just about getting the work everyday. A big thing with us is communication. As long as we're on the same page and know what we're doing, we can be very good."
